KEEPERS OF THE WATER ORGANIZATION PROFILE

We are an Indigenous led non-profit organization that works to protect water. We engage communities and conduct research of both Indigenous wisdom and other science. We also work on decolonization and Indigenous rights.

Keepers of the Water was formed in 2006 and since that time we have been consistent in addressing the concerns of water use and water protection in the Arctic Drainage basin.

JOB SUMMARY

Working with Coordinator and Communications staff who will be engaging Indigenous communities to identify priorities for Water. Data Collection and analysis. Helping to create the questions and gathering information with the intent of writing a report that will be shared with Department Environment and Climate Change Canada and a booklet that will be shared back with the community with the findings that were shared.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • The ability to gather research from an Indigenous world view and from Indigenous seeking methods

  • Experience working with Indigenous communities in relationship building and learning knowledge from the community people.

  • Strong oral communication skills.

  • Strong written skills, the ability to gather the information shared to be able to collate in a meaningful and creative way that reflects the authenticity of information being shared.

  • Familiarity and ability to use Microsoft Office and/or Google Sheets.

  • Knowledge of Environmental issues and concerns of Indigenous people, which includes water.

  • Fluency in Cree and or Dene is an asset

  • Ability to work independently with a geographically dispersed team.

  • Prior experience in education or data entry an asset.

  • Ability to do data collection and analysis.

SCHEDULE

Flex schedule, will be based around the availability of the community people we are engaging.

COVID-19 considerations: Everyone is working remotely.

CONTRACT LENGTH

3 months, 25 hours per week. February 1st to April 30th

WORK LOCATION

Fully Remote
